Bogotá, My City, My Home’ remains a leading tourist destination in the continent and the region! In 2024, Colombia’s capital welcomed more than 14 million tourists, with cultural, historical, and architectural activities being the favorites at 73.2%. According to a tourism survey released by the Bogotá Tourism Institute (IDT), these are the five most visited attractions—places you won’t want to miss in 2025.

These are the most visited sites in Bogotá, according to the data from the 2024 Grand Travelers Survey by the Bogotá Tourism Observatory, IDT:

Monserrate Hill

Climbing Monserrate Hill, the iconic spot nestled in Bogotá ’s Eastern Hills, remains the top choice among visitors. It was visited by 65.3% of international tourists and 29.3% of domestic travelers.

At 3,152 meters (10,341 feet) above sea level, Monserrate is home to the city’s most famous and beloved sanctuary.

Visitors can reach the summit by hiking, cable car, or funicular. The hiking trail covers 2,350 meters (7,710 feet) with 1,605 steps, offering breathtaking views of the region’s flora and fauna. Monserrate is part of the Eastern Forest Reserve, a protected ecosystem that has preserved the high Andean, sub-paramo, and paramo forests since the 1970s.

La Candelaria Historic Center

The charming colonial streets, historic houses, and grand mansions, alongside renowned landmarks like the Catedral Primada de Colombia and the Plaza de Bolívar, continue to be a favorite, attracting 60.5% of international tourists and 27.3% of domestic visitors.

Located in La Candelaria district, Bogotá ’s oldest neighborhood was founded on August 6, 1538. Today, it is a hub for tourism, education, and commerce, famous for its emerald markets, artisan shops, museums, and cultural attractions. Its picturesque colonial architecture makes it a must-visit in Colombia.

The Gold Museum (Museo del Oro)

Part of the Cultural Network of the Bank of the Republic, the Gold Museum has played a crucial role in preserving, researching, and promoting Colombia’s archaeological treasures.

Its collection features over 400 artifacts, including gold, ceramics, stone, textiles, and other materials, showcasing the country’s rich pre-Columbian heritage. During Bogotá’s founding in 1538, Spanish explorer Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada chose Chorro de Quevedo as the starting point for the city's urban layout. Over time, it became a bohemian and artistic hub, attracting writers, musicians, and poets who helped shape Bogotá ’s cultural identity. Today, it remains a vibrant space for cultural expressions, live performances, and street art.

Ranked fourth among international tourists (46.8% preference), Chorro de Quevedo is a historical and cultural landmark not to be missed.

Plaza de Bolívar

Plaza de Bolívar, Bogotá ’s most important square, was founded by the Spanish in 1539. Over the centuries, it has played a key role in Colombia’s history, including welcoming Simón Bolívar and the Liberating Army in 1819 after their victory in the Battle of Boyacá.

Today, key government buildings, including, surround it: The National Capitol (Congress), Catedral Primada de Colombia, Palacio Liévano (City Hall), Palacio de Justicia (Supreme Court), and Museum of Independence. The Plaza de Bolívar is also a key starting point for exploring the historic center and a hub for social movements and cultural events.
