Every year, TripAdvisor celebrates these awards that highlight the destinations, hotels, restaurants, and favorite activities that are best-rated and reviewed by travelers worldwide during the past 12 months, which are compiled by the platform.

“The city is constantly evolving, aligned with the latest trends, consolidating itself as a competitive destination at an international level. Bogotá’s Transformation into a Top Tourist Destination

The sharp rise in national and international tourism in 2024 underscores Bogotá’s evolution from a transit hub into a fully-fledged travel destination.

Bogotá is Colombia’s leading tourist destination, attracting 38.8% of international visitors. This success is largely driven by promotional strategies led by the Bogotá Tourism Institute (IDT), in collaboration with key partners like the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce and Invest in Bogotá,” explained Andrés Santamaría, Director of IDT.

In 2024, Bogotá welcomed over 13.5 million tourists (January to November), marking an 8.7% increase compared to the previous year. December 2024 broke records, with 1,163,823 domestic and international tourists—a remarkable achievement for a month that has traditionally seen lower visitor numbers.

The City's Management to Boost Tourism in Bogotá

These tourism results in Bogotá are largely motivated by strategies developed by the Bogotá Tourism Institute (IDT), such as the launch of the new narrative and city brand Bogotá, My Home, which was showcased in Times Square in New York, reaching more than six million people, and from which the city’s positioning in the world is promoted.

Likewise, the launch of the tourism offer platform and app, visitbogota.co, and the development of technological innovations to improve the tourist experience through the generative artificial intelligence chatbot, Candelaria, the first with a tourism focus in the country, which provides information 24/7 and interacts with users to provide information to those visiting the city.

The certification of Bogotá as an Intelligent Tourist Destination (DTI) focused on pillars such as innovation, sustainability, and accessibility, and initiatives like the allocation of 67 billion pesos in participatory budgets for localities aimed at developing the sector in 2025.
