The Mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López, participated on Saturday in the Local and Regional Governments Forum, organized as part of the Day of Acceleration of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the 78th United Nations General Assembly.
"It is a pleasure to be in this meeting with the United Nations and the nations of the world to join efforts and fulfill the Sustainable Development Goals, which are an imperative that must not expire," said the Mayor of Bogotá.
During the forum, representatives from various local and regional governments highlighted the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, reaffirmed voluntary commitments, and reflected on priorities and aspirations for achieving the SDGs. They also discussed the collaboration between civil society, the public, and the private sector in promoting policies related to the care of people and the planet.

"What the world needs is effective action and commitment, which means that it's not just about political discourse and the multilateralism we've seen at the state level, but rather the private sector, communities, and local governments coming together," explained Mayor Claudia López.
The mayor was emphatic in stating, "I want to make it clear: solutions based on nature, care, decarbonization of transportation, education, and security are in the cities, and we are implementing them with our own resources."
In this regard, she invited the states gathering this week at the United Nations to define fiscal, technical, and responsibility conditions so that the resources allocated by multilateral banks, the World Bank, and global and regional development banks are directed directly to local and regional governments.
"Solutions will only have a global reach sufficient to save the entire planet if financing resources from multilateral development banks and technological transformation resources come to the cities," she added.

During the forum, the Executive Director of UN-Habitat, Maimunah Mohd Sharif, acknowledged the importance of Bogotá's Care System: "Local and regional governments also play a crucial role in promoting gender equality and creating inclusive and equitable communities. An example is the Care Blocks initiative in Bogotá, which addresses the demand for care, educational, social, recreational, and technical services for caregivers."
Mayor Claudia López's participation in the United Nations during the 'SDG Action Weekend' represents an opportunity to highlight the policies and advancements led by the current administration in terms of care for people and sustainable development.
