"Bogotá competed to become the host of the Summit. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs launched a call in different cities to attract and organize this event. We won because Bogotá has a lot to share not only with Colombia but with the world, thanks to the initiatives led by Mayor Claudia López during her tenure," stated Luz Amparo Medina.
The Summit will bring together world leaders, international organizations, financial institutions, entrepreneurs, investors, and civil society to foster dialogues that facilitate innovative partnerships in support of the implementation of the SDGs. Furthermore, it aims to enhance policy and financing mechanisms to scale up early-stage businesses, showcase emerging partnerships and ventures ready for investment in low- and middle-income countries, and strengthen collaboration between industries and the public and private sectors to assist countries in meeting their climate and development objectives.
Mayor Claudia López will participate in the opening of the Summit and the " High-level Panel on Innovative Climate Finance," scheduled for Friday, September 22nd. Additionally, she will lead the virtual mayors' summit, which will include mayors from Malmo (Sweden), Montevideo, Santiago de Chile, Buenos Aires, Cuenca (Ecuador), and a representative from the Energy Committee of the City of Cape Town (South Africa). This forum will serve to agree on effective actions to strengthen partnerships among multiple stakeholders promoting inclusive green growth.
The Director of International Relations for Bogotá spoke about the city's commitments and advancements in recent years, stating that "there has been a significant emphasis on environmental sustainability and inclusion. Bogotá has developed a strong international presence in recent years, which aligns with these local development goals. WRI, as the custodian of the P4G platform, extends special thanks to the national government, the Bogotá administration, and ANDI for organizing this pivotal event. Our organization is technical and global, aiming to establish links between environmental preservation, economic opportunities, and human well-being. Undoubtedly, through the platform, we seek to promote entrepreneurship and actions that are emerging to provide climate resilience-focused solutions."
