Multilateral Banks: No Objections to Parties Interested in Building Metro Line 2

After a rigorous process of review, verification, and evaluation of the submitted documents, the outcome of which was brought before the multilateral banking institutions for consideration, they raised No Objections to the list of prequalified parties interested in the construction of the Second Line of the Bogotá Metro.

It was determined that the four groups that submitted their applications to participate in the International Public Tender for the construction, operation, and maintenance of the Underground Second Line of the Bogotá Metro to Suba and Engativá are eligible to proceed:

The documentation submitted by the four international groups added approximately 8,000 pages, in addition to digital media, they demonstrated compliance with the technical, financial, and legal requirements, as outlined in the Prequalification Document published on the government's SECOP II platform.

"The 'No Objection' to the requests made by the four international groups interested in building the Underground Line 2 to the Suba and Engativá districts is a testament to the rigor of the process and the confidence that entrepreneurs have in investing in our city. Today, we make progress in realizing this new line of the Bogotá Metro Network, achieving in 4 years what took 40 years for the First Line of the Bogotá Metro," stated Leonidas Narváez, General Manager of the Bogotá Metro Company.

On September 29, 2023, the second phase of the selection process will continue, conducted through an international public tender governed by the procurement rules of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). The eligible groups will be required to submit for evaluation their technical and economic bids by February 14, 2024.

The process will end in March 2024 with the award of the contract for the construction and operation of the Second Line of the Bogotá Metro to Suba and Engativá.

Bogotá Metro Line 2 (L2MB)

The Second Line of the Bogotá Metro (L2MB) will benefit more than 2.9 million people. This project has been declared of strategic importance for Bogotá and the nation due to its impact on the capital's mobility.

It will have a length of 15.5 kilometers, 1 maintenance yard, and 11 stations, of which 10 will be underground and one elevated. This project will connect four districts of Bogotá: Chapinero, Barrios Unidos, Engativá, and Suba. The total cost amounts to 34.9 billion Colombian pesos.

It will connect the northeastern part of Bogotá, from Calle 72 and Caracas Avenue, to the Fontanar del Río area in the west of the city, where the maintenance yard will be located.
