Mayor Claudia López’s international agenda will take her to Glasgow, Scotland, where she is expected to attend the 26th edition of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP26). The Bogotá Mayor will exercise her prerogative as regional vice-president of the C40 Climate Leadership Group. An ambitious project that has been implemented alongside the city of Buenos Aires to bring in other cities to take a more pro-active approach to the imminent climate crisis. The Conference will be held at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SEC) in Glasgow from October 31st to November 12th.
Mayor López hopes to take advantage of this prestigious venue to sit down with several representatives of local governments and international organisations to create and strengthen bonds with Bogotá.
As of November 1st, the Colombian Pavilion will be set up at The SEC where they will be joined by Mayor Lopez and her retinue, along with the Secretary of the Environment, Carolina Urrutia, and the Colombian delegation led by President Iván Duque himself. The objective is to present the steps that have been taken to mitigate the climate crisis, on a local and national level.

Steering Comittee– C40
On November 1st, the Board of Directors of the C40 -- comprised of a Global Climate Leadership Group -- will convene for the last time of the year. This committee is made up of cities that have joined forces to reduce greenhouse gas and smog emissions, and of which Mayor Claudia López is regional vice president and president of the Forum of Young People and Mayors.
The topics on the agenda will be the main challenges that cities face in terms of climate action. Experiences will be shared and strategic lines will be defined for the participation of local governments during COP26. In turn, Bogotá will present the steps that have been taken towards the Climate Action Plan to reduce emissions and reach carbon-neutrality by 2050.
Several cities will take part of event such as Oslo, London, Glasgow, Los Angeles and Phoenix expected to attend.
A sit-down with the Mayor of London
The Mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López will meet with her London counterpart, Sadiq Khan, with whom she seeks to forge alliances on clean and sustainable mobility, as well as for important city-wide infrastructure projects, among other things.
Mayor López will also participate in several meetings to broaden the collaboration of the UK Pact, which backs countries that are striving to reduce GHG emissions. Mayor Lopez will of course take part of The Prosperity Fund, which aims to support the inclusive economic growth necessary to reduce poverty in its partner countries in order to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) proposed by the UN by 2030.
Finally on the Mayor’s hectic agenda, is a meeting with former US Secretary of State, and Special Environmental Delegate to the President Joe Biden’s administration, John Kerry and Mr. Norman Foster, president of the foundation that bears his name. An organization that is renowned for its interdisciplinary thinking and research that helps new generations of architects, designers and urban planners to anticipate the future. Not least of which, is a meeting with non-other than the UN Special Envoy for Climate Action and founder of Bloomberg Philanthropies, Mr. Michael Bloomberg himself.
Meanwhile, Secretary of the Government, Luis Ernesto Gómez, will step in to serve as interim mayor, while the mayor is unveiling her international agenda in Europe and abroad,
