The Inter-American Development Bank – IDB, selected Bogotá as one of the ten destinations that will be part of the Future Tourism Program, a competition in which 107 cities in Latin America and the Caribbean were presented at the end of April 2022.
The Project will provide a methodological framework and customized roadmaps to consolidate the city as a Smart Tourist Destination (DTI, as per the acronym in Spanish).
Among the benefits that the destinations selected with this program will obtain is that of contributing to the competitiveness and sustainability of the tourism sector in Latin America and the Caribbean, together with a diagnosis and a detailed action and investment plan to accelerate the incorporation of technological and digital innovations prioritized by the city, which help the recovery of the tourism sector.

Bogotá was the only city in the country selected by the IDB to be part of the program, given that the city's objectives focus on overcoming tourism governance barriers, including the challenges of public-private and civil society coordination.
In addition to the development of the Bogotá–Region Integrated Intelligent Tourism Information System, an initiative carried out in cooperation with the Higher District ICT Council and Fenalco Bogotá, and which also enjoys participation from actors in Bogotá’s academic and business sectors.

The Program has $1.5 million in non-reimbursable funds for technical cooperation. These resources are provided by the IDB’s Spanish General Cooperation Fund for the 10 chosen destinations that are: City of Córdoba, Argentina; Fortaleza, Brazil; Puerto Varas, Chile; Galapagos Islands, Ecuador; Quito Metropolitan District, Ecuador; Antigua Guatemala, Guatemala; Cancun, Mexico; Montevideo, Uruguay; City of Arequipa, Peru; and Bogotá, Colombia.
On June 27, the program’s opening meeting will be held. The RTD, headed by the Director General, and the team of experts who will lead the program in Bogotá, together with the representatives of Fenalco and Upper ICT Secretariat will attend virtually. The program will last three years and among its results it seeks to generate a pilot model replicable in other regional destinations.
