"Bogotá and Montreal share a vision of cities that prioritize culture as a driver of transformation and sustainable urban development as a key focus. Strengthening this partnership opens new doors for collaboration that will benefit our citizens,” said Mayor Galán
Montreal, Canada’s second-largest city, has been at the forefront of innovative mobility and sustainability models. In 2024, it launched its Circular Economy Roadmap (2024-2030), aiming to double its circularity rate from 3% to 6%. These advancements offer valuable insights for Bogotá, which is currently developing a new circular model for solid waste management, from planning to implementation.
The meeting was part of a trade mission focused on Montreal’s cultural and creative industries, aimed at strengthening ties with Bogotá and identifying new opportunities for investment and collaboration. Both cities boast strong cultural sectors and are members of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, reinforcing their commitment to the creative economy as a driver of development.
Mayor Plante emphasized the importance of cooperation in tackling future urban challenges:
"Montreal is Canada’s cultural hub and has much to share and learn from Bogotá. I also recognize Bogotá’s cycling infrastructure; in Montreal, we are committed to pedestrianization and improving our bike infrastructure."
The meeting included representatives from Bogotá’s Secretariat of Habitat, Secretariat of Culture, and the Bogotá Institute of the Arts (IDARTES), as well as delegates from Montreal’s City Hall in the areas of culture, economic development, and international relations.
