During the meeting, Mayor Galán highlighted the progress in constructing Bogotá’s Metro Line 1 and the work of various administrations to establish a multimodal and sustainable transportation system. This system integrates electric buses, cable cars, and bike paths.

Mayor Ron Nirenberg of San Antonio praised Bogotá’s global leadership in operating Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems and expressed interest in learning from Bogotá’s advancements in transportation integration and sustainability.

As both leaders are part of the Mayors Migration Council—a coalition of mayors working to advance global actions on migration and displacement—and the Mayors’ Task Force on Migration in the Americas, they discussed the critical role of local governments in implementing policies that ensure human rights protections, dignified treatment, and access to public services for migrant populations.

Simultaneously, the San Antonio delegation, comprising over 30 representatives from government agencies and private companies, explored opportunities in economic development, education, culture, tourism, and water resource management. Technical discussions aimed to identify new collaborative initiatives that could bring tangible benefits to residents of both cities.

In the areas of cultural management and tourism, collaboration opportunities were identified for promoting arts and culture in both directions. Plans are underway to establish strategic relationships between business communities in the two cities, which will attract more foreign investment. Additionally, efforts are being made to establish new air routes between San Antonio and Bogotá to boost commercial and tourism exchanges.

The visit also delved into joint efforts in water resource management and public services. Both cities explored the exchange of best practices in efficient water management, conservation, and the development of sustainable infrastructure.
