Mayor Claudia López will fulfill an international agenda as part of the Ninth Summit of the Americas, which will be held in the city of Los Angeles (United States), between June 6 and 9, 2022.

The Summit of the Americas is the highest-level political meeting in the Western Hemisphere and is held every three years. It brings together the leaders of South American, Central American, North American, and Caribbean countries. The Summit and its stakeholder forums promote cooperation to foster economic growth and prosperity throughout the region.

Mayor López was invited to participate in several parallel events to this Summit, where she will present Bogotá’s vision and advances together with the concept of Cuidado de las personas, el planeta y la democracia (“Care for people, the planet, and democracy”) as the coordinating axis of her government plan.

The main event on the Mayor’s agenda is her participation on Tuesday, June 7 as a panelist in the workshop Beyond the Summit, Hemispheric Cities: Shared Challenges, Shared Solutions. This space will be used to reflect on critical issues facing local governments, such as migration, finance, and climate adaptability.

The Mayor will participate in this event thanks to an invitation from the Inter-American Dialogue, a center for analysis and knowledge exchange that brings together global leaders and experts to promote democratic governance, prosperity, and social equality in Latin America and the Caribbean.

On the first day of her agenda, Mayor López will participate in several bilateral talks, one of which is a meeting with the mayor of Los Angeles, Eric Garcetti, with whom she will discuss issues related to environmental policies, management of metropolitan regions, and sustainable mobility.

She will also attend a meeting with the president of the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF), Sergio Díaz-Granados, to discuss possible credit and cooperation operations.

On Tuesday, June 7, in addition to her participation in the panel convened by the Inter-American Dialogue, Mayor López will participate as a panelist in a meeting organized by the Mayor's Office of Los Angeles, called Leadership Lessons from Latin America, where Hispanic leaders will talk about their role in politics and society.

On June 8, the Mayor will participate in a side event of the Summit of the Americas that will focus on the promotion of an integrated approach to violence prevention in cities. This space will address strategies for the prevention of different forms of violence, which have been implemented in different cities to strengthen social cohesion, safeguard local democracy, and promote more inclusive and equitable societies. Mayor López will also meet with representatives of the Hilton Foundation and the Wilson Center to review possible alliances focused on the social and economic integration of the migrant population.

It is worth remembering that the Mayor was invited by President Joe Biden to the inauguration of this IX Summit of the Americas, and that its motto will be "Building a sustainable, resilient, and equitable future".

Finally, on Thursday, June 9, Mayor López will participate in a round table on public-private partnerships, where she will share Bogotá's experience with the implementation of public-private partnerships to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

This meeting will be attended by the special envoy of the government of President Joe Biden for Environmental Affairs and former Secretary of State of the United States, John Kerry; and the Mayor of Los Angeles, Eric Garcetti. On the same day, the Mayor will visit CleanTech innovation incubator, where she will personally learn about strategies for the acceleration of clean technologies.
