Bogota consolidates as a foreign investment platform according to Invest

According to Invest in Bogotá, in the last 5 years the capital has received significant foreign investment that has generated more than 89,000 jobs.

The region has received 720 new and expansion foreign investment projects since 2018, according to Invest in Bogotá report.

According to the investment promotion agency, Invest in Bogotá, the capital city of Colombia has presented a significant growth and business success in the last 5 years, such as the reception of 720 new foreign investment and expansion projects.

These investment projects represent the arrival of more than US$ 9.8 billion for Bogotá and, according to Invest, it is estimated that this investment has created more than 89,000 direct jobs in the capital.

"Only in 2022, the Bogota Region received more than 143 new expanded Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) projects, which were estimated to generate more than 20,950 jobs", the agency claimed.

The Foreign Direct Investment, FDI, works as an engine of economic and social development, whom benefits not only are a contribution to the local economy, GDP, economic growth and competitiveness in the city, or the country. Indeed, it is also an important source of professional, sophisticated and high-level employment.

Thus, the most attractive sectors for investing in Bogotá ever since 2018 are technology and outsourcing services, as the human talent demonstrates quality standards and advances in bilingualism.

Also, the strategic location of Bogotá makes part of its attractiveness for international investment. Additionally, other outstanding sectors are the creative industries, health services & smart infrastructure, and financial services, according to the Invest in Bogotá report.

Since 2022, foreign investment projects financed by enterprises in the United States, Spain and Argentina have generated the highest rate of job vacancies in the Bogotá Region, representing around 66.8% of recruitments.

These are followed by countries such as Brazil and Japan, which generated 4.4% and 2.7% employment, respectively.

The previous data shows the diversification performed for capturing projects coming from non-traditional countries, the use of Bogotá as a hub to fulfill regional demands and the new employment opportunities in the city.

"Colombia's capital city hosts 2 of the 10 best universities in Latin America; it concentrates 35% of the country's technologists and technicians, as well as 39% of the country's PhDs" explained Isabella Muñoz, executive director of Invest in Bogotá.

The impact of foreign investment in Bogota not only represents the important progress done in terms of employment generation. The report concluded that it also transfers knowledge, science, technology and innovation that positioned the city on the same level with other developed cities.
