Bogotá's Mayor, Carlos Fernando Galán, participated in the 'Ecofuturo Congress' as part of 'Expo GreenTech', a platform for technological cooperation and bilateral innovation with Italy, focused on energy, circular economy, environmental protection, and ecological transition.

In his speech, Mayor Galán highlighted Bogotá’s strategic location as a city capable of developing significant innovation projects through international cooperation.

He also discussed his government's commitment to transitioning towards a circular economy and sustainability: "We will take strong steps to move from a linear to a circular model, one that integrates all stakeholders and incorporates new technologies."

Furthermore, the Mayor mentioned his team's opportunity to improve waste management, a challenge they will tackle through a circular economy-based sanitation scheme that is "viable and sustained." He also noted one of his government's significant challenges relates to air quality, for which he plans to advance with investments in monitoring systems and incentives for fleet renewal.

Mayor Galán emphasized that his decisions are evidence-based and made in coordination with various actors, including the private sector. "We acknowledge that the private sector plays a key and leading role in addressing climate change challenges. With technology, innovation, and partnerships, we will effectively face these challenges, and the private sector is an essential ally," stated the Mayor of Bogotá.

This congress is among the activities held at 'Expo GreenTech', at the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce, becoming a central hub for innovation and knowledge exchange between Italy and Colombia. "The aim of such events is to enhance synergy, business growth, and the internationalization process between Italy and Colombia," affirmed Ovidio Claros, Executive President of the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce.

The Italian Ambassador to Colombia, Giancarlo María Curcio, underscored the strategic importance of the two nations in advancing technological innovation projects that boost the economy. "Italy and Colombia are strategic countries. Italy provides innovation and technology, while Bogotá, and Colombia more broadly, have the resources to drive companies that pave the way for growth," commented Ambassador Curcio.

Angelo Gobbo, Executive Director of the Italian Chamber of Commerce, stressed the urgent need to change economic models and move towards a circular economy that contributes to environmental protection and life care. "Now more than ever, we realize the need to shift our economic models. It is essential to transition from a linear to a circular economy, and a safe, fair, and responsible energy transition is urgent," highlighted Gobbo.
