At the COP16, Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán participated in the opening of the World Biodiversity Summit, highlighting the role of cities at the forefront of climate action. He explained how Bogotá is rethinking its infrastructure, transportation systems, and land use to support positive energy and environmental transitions.
"We started our second day at the #COP16 at the World Biodiversity Summit, where we presented our $90 million investment plan to restore and protect the Norte and Chingaza system watersheds. We also introduced our green bond plan to meet our compliance indicators in our fight against climate change," stated Mayor Galán on his X account.
The event brought together global leaders from governments, businesses, finance, and civil society to expedite and support the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework while promoting the green economy and natural markets.
Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán added that Colombia is the second most biodiverse country in the world, and Bogotá accounts for 10% of this biodiversity. He mentioned that the city is working to improve air quality and change how we move around the city through the construction of Metro Line 1 and the use of electric buses for Transmilenio.
