Mayor Claudia López received Gilles Bertrand, Ambassador of the European Union in Colombia in a meeting held at Liévano Palace.

"We have an extensive agenda in which we work together and it is through events like today's that we can follow up on this, for that and more we thank you for your cooperation," said the Mayor as she welcomed Ambassador Bertrand.

The objective of this meeting was to review the joint issues on which Bogota is working with the European Union, as well as to strengthen the cooperation agenda on peace building, integration of the migrant population, gender equality, and climate change.

"We found your invitation very timely, especially for cross-cutting projects such as those with a particular focus on women and migrants. We are very interested in its implementation and visibility," said Ambassador Bertrand.

With regard to the exploration of new areas of cooperation, Bogota requested the support of the European Union to strengthen processes that provide assistance to the displaced population, and the social and economic integration of the migrant population. This effort seeks to manage resources for the health insurance of the migrant population and to develop initiatives related to employability and entrepreneurship.

With regards to the implementation of the Peace Agreement, support is sought for the strengthening of productive infrastructure and support for enterprises run by the ex-combatant population. The aim is to bring these productive projects closer to the European business environment, with the development of business events and training in online commerce and brand positioning.

Another issue of vital importance is that of gender equity, for which the District Care System will continue to be strengthened through campaigns to prevent gender-based sexual violence and the implementation of new mobile units.

Below is a tweet from Mayor Claudia López in which she refers to her meeting with Gilles Bertrand, ambassador of the European Union in Colombia:

"Bogota is at a stage where it has everything it needs to stand out in the global market thanks to the projects it is spearheading. This is where international collaboration stands out" expressed Mayor López.

Finally, with regard to air quality issues, the intention is to have the necessary technology to study and characterize the material and toxic components in the air, as part of the Air 2030 Plan.

"For us it is very important to have a close relationship with Bogota and to be able to advance this common agenda using the various tools we can offer to help the capital," said Ambassador Bertrand, at the end of the meeting.

Currently, the Colombian capital and the European Union have a varied cooperation agenda, which seeks to implement successful experiences developed in other cities. The main topics of this agenda are related to sustainable mobility, gender equity, air quality improvement, circular economy, reconciliation, and strengthening the use of bicycles as a means of transportation.
