The Secretary of Economic Development, Alfredo Bateman and the High District Advisor for Information and Communications Technologies, Iván Mauricio Durán; and the Manager of new businesses of Agata, Ana María Bermúdez, participated in the Smart City Expo World Congress, which took place from November 15 to 17.
The event brought together government leaders and the most innovative global organizations that play a decisive role in building smart cities.
In this edition of Smart City Expo participated representatives of 134 countries, more than 400 speakers, and 853 presenters. It is estimated that more than 20,400 people attended in person and 21,000 virtually. The event focused on defining strategies that improve citizens’ quality of life and promote the development of a more inclusive and sustainable society, under models of collective intelligence.

Bogotá actively participated in this event, with a stand in which the potential of the region was disseminated and of which the Secretariat of Economic Development, Invest in Bogotá, and the Colombian capital’s i-Team made up of the Public Innovation Laboratory (IBO, as per the acronym in Spanish), the High ICT Council, and Agata were part.
The Secretary of Economic Development, Alfredo Bateman, participated in the panel "Collaborative governance for a shared future", where he presented on advances in the use of technology, data, and innovation in collaborative governance, the government model, incorporation of transparency systems, and legitimization of public policies in citizens’ eyes.
On this international day, Bogotá – Region shared the progress of strategic projects to promote competitiveness, environmental, social, and economic sustainability in the territory, which allowed Bogotá to be chosen as one of the venues for the 2023 Smart City Expo in Latin America.
The Colombian capital was considered ideal to learn about new and best practices around smart mobility; energy and environment; land use planning; public innovation; competitiveness and use of technology enablers; among others.
Smart City Bogotá enable awareness raising and positioning of Bogotá - Region’s new social and environmental contract of the XXI century as well as for the Development Plan 2020 - 2024, in which the city is transformed through citizens, and collaboration and participation become the axes used to meet citizens’ needs and requirements, through the use of technology, data, and innovation.
It was also known that the city will be one of the host cities of the Smart City Expo in 2023 and as part of the preparatory process, we are working with representatives of FIRA Barcelona, Corferias, and other international actors to consolidate the agenda for the event which will take place from May 30 to June 2 of next year.
"We invite all companies, and all cities in Colombia and the region, to participate in what will be this great experience of seeing how we use technology to improve citizens’ quality of life and how we make our cities increasingly productive," said Alfredo Bateman, Secretary of Economic Development.

This agenda will include topics such as: enabling technology; energy and environment; smart mobility; governance and economics; life and inclusion; data for city security; and sustainable construction.
