After the closing of the Metropolis - the global network that brings together large cities and metropolitan areas from all continents and of which Mayor Claudia López was appointed president - congress, the Mayor signed a memorandum of cooperation between Bogotá and Sao Paulo with the aim of strengthening collaboration mechanisms between the two cities towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
On behalf of the Brazilian city, the instrument was signed by the Municipal Secretary for International Relations, Marta Suplicy, who reiterated the commitment to collaborate with Bogotá to promote common strategies and follow up on global development agendas.
Since the last meeting of the World Urban Forum, held in Katowice (Poland), Bogotá and Sao Paulo had agreed to sign this Memorandum of Cooperation and Friendship in order to ratify both cities’ collaborative support.

One of the first reasons for the consolidation of this agreement is both cities’ willingness to collaborate on issues of mutual interest such as climate action, foreign investment, gender perspective, and sustainable mobility, among others.
This memorandum facilitates collaboration through resources such as technical assistance and knowledge sharing and the joint organization of seminars, workshops, and conferences to support and advance both parties’ development strategies.
Secretary Suplicy also participated in the conversation 'The importance of the metropolitan debate and cooperation between the different levels of governance' as part of the Metropolis agenda, where in conversation with Mayor López she congratulated Bogotá’s representative for the city’s work in the implementation of the Care System and citizens’ positive reception of the same.
"I have a lot of admiration for the energy, determination, vision, and boldness of your strategies. I wish them well because, based on Sao Paulo’s experience, we know that it is emotion that supports positive change in people," said Suplicy.
