Within the framework of the III P4G Colombia 2023 Summit, the Mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López Hernández; the Ambassador of Denmark to Colombia, Erik Hoeg; and the Mayor of Copenhagen, Sophie Hæstop Andersen, through a video message, signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish lines of cooperation on sustainable urban development and climate change mitigation and adaptation.
The Memorandum aims to define the guidelines that will regulate cooperation for joint work plans focused on a green transition, primarily in areas related to climate change adaptation, multimodal mobility, solid waste management, and water management.
For Mayor Claudia López, addressing urban challenges requires the joint action of multiple actors and disciplines to achieve the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and improve the quality of life of the city's residents sustainably and inclusively. She emphasized, "I have great confidence that cooperation with cities will continue without any hiccups. We need partnerships based on development and inclusion; young people need green jobs that include and embrace them."

The cooperation initiated with the signing of this Memorandum involves a wide range of areas, including the exchange of experiences in the development of sustainable cities. In the field of mobility, it will focus on improving infrastructure for bicycle users, while in water management, it will seek strategies to minimize the waste of drinking water. Finally, in terms of waste management, strategies based on circular economy and energy generation will be proposed.
In his turn, the Ambassador of Denmark in Colombia, Erik Hoeg, highlighted his country's strong tradition of addressing contemporary challenges through urban planning and transdisciplinary cooperation. "This instrument will allow experts from the Mayor's Office to visit Denmark and learn about four key areas. We are designing a work plan to implement concrete actions. We understand the needs, such as sustainable mobility, an area in which we have experience. Likewise, we want to support Bogotá's sustainable development path, especially in the field of circular economy," he emphasized.
The signing of this instrument marks the beginning of a three-year cooperation process that will align with Bogotá's Development Plan, Master Plan, and other official urban planning instruments.
"This agreement between our two cities will be a significant first step in a fruitful cooperation in the coming years. We have developed strong, ambitious, and extensive work plans among our experts in water management, waste management, and bicycle mobility," stated Sophie Hæstop Andersen, Mayor of Copenhagen, in her message.
This partnership between Bogotá and Copenhagen reflects their shared commitment to environmental sustainability and the fight against climate change, laying the foundation for a greener and more sustainable future for both cities.
